The Comparison Culture Epidemic: We Need This to Stop

Comparison Culture is Built to Break You Down

Social media is built on what viewers want to see. That “want” becomes what is seen as perfection. It makes us compare ourselves to curated content instead of remembering that behind these videos, nobody is perfect.

It Hurts Us Black Girls Most

The online algorithms are already made to advertise what is more attractive. That means the western culture, not us. We have to work twice as hard for the algorithm to even notice us. There are many trends that use our culture but the credit is not given to us, and that is insulting. We do so much for social media culture but we aren’t supposed to celebrate ourn accomplishments.

Your Soft Life is Defined by YOU, Not Anybody Else

A soft life is not a materialistic way of life. It is about caring about your mental and physical health, choosing rest when you need it instead of pushing and overextending yourself, and finding a style that reflects your individuality. Move at the pace you need, not the pace that social media dictates for you.

“What would your life look like if you stopped comparing yourself to others and just honored your own growth? (And don’t worry, I am working on this too!)
What is something you are proud of—even if it doesn’t feel “Instagram-worthy”?
